Dickson wins 2024 Ficker Cup

Scotty Dickson won the 2024 Ficker Cup, held April 19-21 in Long Beach, CA. As the opening event of the 2024 World Match Racing Tour, an eight team field was seeking the title and opportunity to qualify for the 2024 Congressional Cup. Dickson won the event for the 14th time across a 24-year span.
Racing in Catalina 37s, Dickson went 12-2 in the double round robin qualifying stage, dropping only one match in the semifinals against Australia’s Cole Tapper. Dickson went on to sweep the finals against Megan Thomson (NZL). Dickson was sailing with Erik Berzins, Garrett Brown, Steve Flam, Zachary Hanna, and Shane Young.
“By the time we got to the final my team was sailing superb,” noted Dickson. “I’ve won this event multiple times but take nothing for granted. Very proud of the team!”
The spotlight turns to the the Grade 1 Congressional Cup on April 24-28, The top three ranking Ficker Cup skippers – Dickson, Thomson, and Tapper – have qualified and move on to the 59th edition.

About the World Match Racing Tour
Founded in 2000, the World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) promotes the sport of match racing around the world and is the longest running global professional series in the sport of sailing. The WMRT is awarded ‘Special Event’ status by the sport’s world governing body – World Sailing – and the winner of the WMRT each year is crowned World Sailing Match Racing World Champion.
