Consistency key at J/70 Corinthians

Published on September 8th, 2024

Edward Gary and his Ayacucho team sailed consistently across the eight race series to win the 2024 J/70 Corinthian US National Championship held September 6-8 in Cape May, NJ. The 26-year-old Gary assembled a roster of friends and family with Travis Carlisle, college sailing teammate Brendan Read, and Brendan’s father Brad Read.

“Feels great!” said Gary. “I’ve sailed J/70s for a long time, but this is actually only my third regatta driving one. Many of the top teams here usually sail with professionals, so you knew the game was on. We had no race wins. Consistency was the key for us.”

The Atlantic Ocean race course served up a mix of wind conditions and rolling waves for the 24-boat fleet. Ayacucho finished two points ahead of Cate Muller-Terhune who was tied with Jim Golden but finished second on countback. The 2025 J/70 Corinthian World Championship will be on September 22-28 in Marblehead, MA.
