Sailing going north at Brisbane 2032

Published on March 25th, 2025

While the Sailing venue for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games is still not known, the Brisbane 2032 Olympics revealed the host venues of the sailing competition to be Townsville and The Whitsundays.

The decision will provide one of the most scenic backdrops of the Games, showcasing the iconic beauty of Far North Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef to the estimated 3 billion Olympic broadcast viewers worldwide. Brisbane is on Australia’s east coast, with The Whitsundays 560 miles to the north, and Townsville is another 140 miles away.

“There is an extremely strong connection between sailing and the communities in North Queensland, and we are pleased that we will have the opportunity to provide a regional legacy for the 2032 Olympic Games.” said Australian Sailing President Shevaun Bruland.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase our sport, with North Queensland offering some of the most beautiful, pristine and competitive sailing courses in the world.

“The Organizing Committee’s decision will have a lasting impact on sailing and our clubs, and we will work with all parties to ensure the best result for the sport, the Games, Queensland and Olympic viewers around the world.”
