Trekkies in charge at US Sailing
Published on May 13th, 2025
Star Trek fans are familiar with the Captain Kirk quote: “To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.” Looking at the 2025 US Sailing calendar, the Trekkies are in charge:
• To veterans of the U.S. Singlehanded Championship, the 2025 edition might look a little different. Typically decided in the ILCA or Sunfish Class, rather than hiking through the waves this year, sailors will be flying above them. Hosted by Tabor Academy on June 20-22, the racing will be held in the WASZP, a foiling one-design dinghy, in Marion, MA. – Full report
• For the U.S. National, North American, or World Champions of a one design class, the annual Championship of Champions has US Sailing gathering the best of the best to face off in a different boat each year. For 2025, that boat is pretty different – the 15-foot Sandpiper. This classic catboat with a gaff-configured sail plan will be raced in anger on September 11-13. – Full report
• Best known for its ski resorts, the 2025 U.S. Adult Sailing Championship will be hosted by Park City Sailing Association (Sail PC), located in Park City, UT. At 6,000 ft of elevation, Sail PC sits amid views of snow-capped mountains at its base in the Jordanelle Reservoir State Park. Teams will be racing J/22s in a round robin format on September 26-28. – Full report
