Do the Italians have better accountants?

Published on June 10th, 2025

While the hosting fee for the 38th America’s Cup remains a mystery, the Italian government is getting excited about the economic impact for Italy and Naples to host the 2027 competition.

“We conducted a study together with the Business School of Luiss University, which contains data on the evaluative impact that is absolutely staggering, because in the short term every euro invested doubles and the impact reaches about 690 million,” said Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè.

“In the long term, however, it quadruples, with cautious estimates reaching 1.2 billion, so these are numbers that absolutely reassure us, but also in terms of employment, they will be very significant data. There could be between 1,500 and 2,000 jobs in our sector.”

Yet, Barcelona said “no más” after 2024, San Francisco had little appetite after 2013, and Valencia was in the red after 2007. Do the Italians have better accountants?
