Abyss of quarrelling and uncertainty

(June 27, 2025) – It’s been one week since former Team New Zealand skipper Peter Burling joined fierce rivals Luna Rossa.

Four weeks since Alinghi led another attack on Team NZ in the row between the defenders and three challengers over the final protocol for the next America’s Cup in Naples.

Five weeks since Athena Racing and American Magic first accused Team NZ of an “ongoing lack of transparency” over the protocol, an accusation the Kiwis have continued to strongly deny.

Six weeks since Team NZ confirmed Italy would host for the first time in 2027.

No entries have yet been submitted for the 38th America’s Cup as Defender New Zealand works with the Challenger of Record from Great Britain to organize the event. The two teams have agreed on some details with the venue moved to Naples, Italy after Barcelona, Spain declined hosting another edition. Racing will be in the spring and summer of 2027.
