Cleaning removes honor, sentimentality

I’m a coffee drinker, black. No additives, a habit born from offshore racing. My home coffee maker, on a timer, grinds the beans before brewing. I like waking up to the smell. Fresh and full-bodied flavor.
When I learned how people read Scuttlebutt with their morning coffee, our merchandise included mugs. Great idea, except for the shipping. Expensive. Fragile. Plus, they were white and got stained. I never reordered.
But now I understand dirty coffee mugs is a thing:
“If you ever get invited to check out what meals are like inside a Navy aircraft carrier, you might spot a nasty, brown-crusted coffee mug lying around. It looks like it’s never been washed because it probably hasn’t, and that’s just how the owner likes it. As repulsive as some might find the sight, however, there’s honor and sentimentality behind it.” – Full report
