Is this how to run a reelection campaign?

In political arm wrestling, six of the ten sailing events for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics got relocated from the venue athletes preferred in Long Beach – which is not in Los Angeles – to the Port of Los Angeles – which is in Los Angeles.
After the LA28 organizing committee succumbed to the pressure, and they convinced the International Olympic Committee that it all would be well (it won’t be), they had to figure out where to put the boats in the busiest shipping container port in the United States.
After LA Councilmember Tim McOsker promoted the Port venue, which is in his District, the plan was to take over a waterfront center used by Scouts and community groups. The facility had served local youth programs for decades, but the Port would terminate that lease to repurpose the area for Olympic use.
The Los Angeles Harbor Commission has now signed off on the plan, making the center available for national sailing federations and Olympic athletes preparing for the 2028 Games. While this is great for elite competition, it comes at the cost of displacing an existing community-focused waterfront facility.
McOsker’s current term expires this year and is seeking reelection with the vote on June 2, 2026. Does squashing a community sailing program in favor of a one-week Olympic regatta score points among the electorate? Standing by.
