Tight Racing at Governor’s Cup

Corona del Mar, CA (July 20, 2017) – The third day for the 51st Annual Governor’s Cup International Junior Match Racing Championship Cup finished with four of the teams tied for the Round Robin 2 with 7 wins and one loss, a winning percentage of 88%. The four teams are Harry Price (AUS), local Christophe Killian (USA), Leonard Takahashi (JPN), and Christopher Weis (USA). The teams completed through Flight 19 today.
Price has been defeated only once through Flight 18 of the second Round Robin. The standings at the end of the day today are as follows: Price, Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, with 17 wins, Christophe Killian, Balboa Yacht Club, with 15 wins, losing only to Price and Weis of Del Rey Yacht Club. Weis is in third with 14 wins, tied with Takahashi of Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.
Will Boulden of Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club won 11 matches. The all-girl team led by Clare Costanzo, of Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, rounds out the top six teams. On Friday, four more races will complete the preliminary series to decide the competitors in the next stages.

The following format is planned:
Stage 1 – A double round robin of all teams.
Stage 2 – A semi-final knockout of the top four teams from Stage 1.
Stage 3 – A final knockout of the top two teams from Stage 2.
Stage 4 – A petit final knockout of the other two teams from Stage 2.
Stage 5 – A consolation round for the teams finishing five through twelve from Stage 1.
