New Discovery Route record confirmed

The World Sailing Speed Record Council has confirmed a new World Record from Cadiz, Spain to San Salvador, Bahamas. Known as the Discovery Route record, the route must pass through the Canary Islands. The new holder is the 131-foot trimaran Spindrift 2, sailed by Dona Bertarelli (SUI), Yann Guichard (FRA), and 12 crew. The record of 6 days 14 hours 29 minutes and 21 seconds was set in 2013 on Oct. 30-Nov. 6 over the 3884 nm course (avg. speed 24.5 kt). Previous record was held by Groupama 3 with skipper Franck Cammas (FRA) in May 2007 (07:10:58:53).
