VIDEO: The ‘other’ foiling catamaran circuit

Published on March 2nd, 2015

A look at the GC32 One Design class in this video published on Mar 2, 2015.

While the America’s Cup World Series will be now sailed in foiling AC45s, it is still the domain for only the six teams entered in the America’s Cup. The 2015 schedule is:
June 4-7: Cagliari, Italy
July 23-26: Portsmouth, UK
August 28-30: Gothenberg, Sweden
October 16-18: Bermuda

For teams that want foiling fun without the America’s Cup budget, the GC32 Racing Tour will have six to eight teams competing throughout Europe. The 2015 schedule is:
27-31 May: Austria Cup – Lake Traunsee, Austria
24–27 June: Cowes Cup – Cowes, UK
30 July–2 Aug: TBA – Germany
27-30 August: Trofeo di Roma – Rome Fiumicino, Italy
10–13 September: Marseille One Design – Marseille, France

The circuit is aimed principally at teams backed by private owners, but the class has a full media, photography and TV crew in place at events to ensure that professional teams gain a good return on investment for their sponsors.

Joining the tour in 2015 is Bullitt Group which has agreed to a two-year title sponsorship deal. Bullitt Group designs, manufactures, markets and sells consumer electronic devices in partnership with global brands. It is the worldwide licensee of Caterpillar Inc. for ‘rugged’ mobile devices and accessories, Kodak for easy-to-use smartphones and connected devices, and Ministry of Sound and Ted Baker for audio products.

Dave Floyd, Co-CEO Bullitt Group explained the sponsorship: “GC32 foiling catamarans are the exciting innovation in sailing and we want to be involved in this new tour from the start to help influence the way the sport is going, exactly as we have within the mobile and audio industries for the brands we work with. The races will be the perfect platform to showcase our devices in fantastic European locations throughout the summer and of course we get to be part of the action.”
