Rich get richer at A-Class Catamaran North Americans

Published on May 21st, 2015

Panama City, FL (May 21, 2015) – In an impressive display of foiling mastery, Matt Struble and Bruce Mahoney extended their 1st and 2nd place lead (eight and 12 points respectively) over the rest of the fleet at the 2015 A-Class Catamaran North American Championship. During the three races completed today in 7 to 12 knots, the duo at times held a commanding five-minute lead over the rest of the fleet.

In typical understated fashion, Mahoney, who went 1-2-2 today on the scorecard, said, “It just wasn’t quite enough. I lost Struble on the last run (in the third race). We were neck and neck the whole race. I kept tacking on him, he kept shooting past me. We’ve had a lot of good battles the last two days; it’s been a lot of fun.”

With eight races now completed, the first throw-out came into effect (after race six), shaking up the fleet behind third place Bailey White. Woody Cope was able to drop a Did Not Finish 42 points from day one, jumping up to fourth place and the top non-foiling design (Nikita with C-boards). Christopher Brown, who has been consistently posting single digit finishes all week, suffered a bit today with a 23, 5, 22 scorecard, but still owns fifth place overall.

Racing is scheduled on May 19-22, with three races planned on the final day.
