Qualifying complete at Laser Radial Youth World Championships

Kingston, ON (August 18, 2015) – Competitors completed only one race today at the Laser Radial Youth World Championships as the second scheduled race was cancelled due to low winds. After four days of racing, the qualifying series is now complete, and tomorrow marks the first day of final series racing.

In the 142-boat male division, Australia’s Conor Nicholas holds onto his lead for the fourth day in a row, placing 5th in today’s race. Nicholas sits only 3 points ahead of 2nd place, Gianmarco Planchestainer of Italy, who received a bullet in today’s race. Canadian Matti Muru continues to climb the leader board, moving into 3rd overall. Umberto José Varbaro, Italy, now now sits in 4th, with Italian team mate Paolo Giargia in 5th.

Mária Érdi of Hungary continues to lead the 53-boat female division. Dolores Moreira, Uruguay is tight on Érdi’s tail, sitting only 2 points behind in 2nd. Italian Francesca Bergamo moves up to 3rd after today’s race. Following Bergamo is Magdalena Kwasna Poland, and Carolina Albano Italy, in 4th and 5th respectively.

The male division flights will now be split into fleets of gold, silver and bronze. The gold fleet will consist of 48 competitors, and the silver and bronze fleets will consist of 47 competitors each.

Racing continues daily until August 20th.
