SORC Update Fall 2015

Published on September 16th, 2015

Summer is over and it is time to start planning for the winter sailing season in south Florida, the Bahamas and elsewhere. Southern Ocean Racing Conference, SORC, along with prominent yacht clubs, is busy finalizing some of America’s finest point to point regattas. The regattas are planned conveniently so that work and sailing schedules can coexist.

First up is the 2015 Nassau Cup Ocean Race starting Thursday November 12th. This will be the 82nd running of this winter stand-by. There is no better way to kick off the winter than with a race to the Bahamas. Our next event is the 2016 Fort Lauderdale to Key West Race starting Wednesday January 13th. The final race of the season is an event over 50-years in the making, the Inaugural Miami to Havana Race, starting on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, and bringing the season to a close with an after race party at the Hemingway International Yacht Club and Marina on February 14.

Also new this season will be the Islands in the Stream Series, using the scoring from the three SORC-managed races, along with the results of the Wirth M. Munroe Palm Beach Race, to determine an overall winner of a four-race series. All you need to do is enter the races as you normally do, and you will be entered in the series.

Online registration is open for both the Nassau Cup and Fort Lauderdale to Key West Race and will be open shortly for the Miami to Havana Race. Getting involved is only a few clicks away! Winter weather makes South Florida the place to race, and SORC delivers. The camaraderie and flow of rum are sure to be a part of both favorite long time regattas and new adventures to as yet unspoiled destinations. Make plans now to come out and participate!
