Chinese Record Seeker Missing

Published on October 26th, 2016

Chinese sailor Guo Chuan, who was trying to break the 7000 nm record for sailing across the Pacific alone, is now reported to be missing. Sailing a 97-foot trimaran, Chuan left San Francisco on October 18 in an attempt to break the 21 day solo record to Shanghai.

Chinese news agency Xinhua reported that his ground navigation team had not heard from him since 15:00 Beijing time on Tuesday, October 24. A search plane was sent, the agency said, which had located the boat but did not see Mr Guo on deck.

Chuan, 51, was the first Chinese person to sail around the world when he completed in 2013 his trans-navigation of the globe in a Class40.
