Game time for #Scuttleball2019

Published on March 14th, 2019

It is that time of year again, March is finally here and you can feel that spring sailing calling your name. Although the Groundhog did not see his shadow, there is still a lot of time to kill before we can splash. So nothing better to welcome spring then Scuttleball… Where sailors go to ball!

Yes, it is time for College Basketball March Madness, the single-elimination tournament featuring 68 of the best men’s basketball teams in the USA. And Scuttleball is where we see who is blinded by their allegiances and who has been paying attention this season.

All the funds raised via the 2019 tournament pool will go towards The Warrior Sailing Program. Warrior Sailing provides maritime education and outreach for wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans.

They do it by facilitating opportunities for skill development and building partnerships between the military and marine communities. Using sailing as a platform, Warrior Sailing positively impacts the participant’s physical and mental health while reconnecting them with the camaraderie and teamwork previously found in military service.

So besides a mindless act to perpetuate the myth in your head about your athletic acumen, joining Scuttleball is a righteous act too. And now in its 31st year, Scuttleball is a game people play. For the 2018 recap… click here.

Selection Sunday, the two words every college basketball fan loves to hear, is March 17 with the tournament brackets going live that night. Once the brackets are confirmed, it is time to ball.

HOW TO ENTER:
You need to submit your picks on the CBS Sports site no later than 10:00 am EDT, Thursday, March 21st. Click on the CBS Scuttleball pool link… you do not need to know ANYTHING about basketball to play (and some say it’s even better to just guess anyhow).

HOW TO PAY:
Your entry fee of $20 (per set of picks) must be submitted separately, but no later than Thursday, March 28th. If you miss the deadline you will be removed from the pool. NO EXCEPTIONS.

It’s easiest for all if you pay with Paypal via this link… https://www.paypal.me/SocialNav

Please add on $2 for using PayPal to cover their fees. If you prefer to pay by check please mail it to:

HOW TO WIN:
To inform the #veterans of the pool, winning Scuttleball still gets you all the fame and notoriety of the glory years of old – like our 2018 winner Kris Matthews! Of course, if you pull off the DFL you will get chastised for a full year (poor Smitty), but still walk away and a free lifetime subscription to Scuttlebutt Sailing News.
