Relaunching the tradition for women

Published on April 22nd, 2019

Thirty years ago, the Betsy Ross Bowl was launched to offer women the opportunity to compete in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty. Run in conjunction with Fleet Week, it had drawn top sailors from across the county to compete in New York Harbor.

Now after a hiatus, Manhattan Yacht Club is bringing back the competition in 2019, rebranded as the Lady Liberty Regatta. To be held June 8-9, MYC is committed to growing the number and prominence of amateur women sailors by bringing together sixty-five of the top women sailors from across the US to compete in this event.

Racing will be held in provided J/24s, with entries open for 13 teams. Already committed is Erica Beck Spencer and Jess Harris, winners of the top female team in 2017 J/24 World Championship.
