Dude, where’s my boat?

Published on May 15th, 2019

Abandoned boats are a bummer, often occurring due to storm damage or financial duress. But a new boat abandoned in mid-Atlantic?

On April 25, the 118ft sailing vessel Knickerbocker, which was inbound to Bermuda, found an abandoned 55ft sailing yacht. After they ascertained its seaworthiness, they towed it along.

The inside of the boat appears to be in good condition and there is no apparent structural damage to the hull. Just bobbing along, alone, with nobody on it. WTF!

The vessel is now under the administration of the Receiver of Wreck, and claims of owners must be established to their satisfaction within one year of May 9, 2019.
