International 110 Class Nationals 2019

Published on August 2nd, 2019

Eighteen International 110s representing fleets from the Midwest and both coasts, gathered on Tomales Bay for the class’ 80th annual National Championship, held July 29 to August 2 in Inverness, CA.

The venue is located about 30 miles North of San Francisco, and served up conditions ranging from 12 to 26 knots during the 5 day event. Regatta Chair David West and crew Attila Pasch, playing the left side of the bay, came out of the blocks fast with 3 bullets and a 5th in the first 4 races. However, as the regatta progressed, the battle for first place came down to the defending team of Joe Berkeley and Linda Epstien and two time Etchells National Champ Bill Barton and crew Chris Raney.

Heading into the final race, Barton needed to put a boat between he and Berkely to clinch the win, and he did just that, scoring a 2nd to Berkeley’s 4th. Both teams netted 16 points, with the tie breaker going to Barton. David West overcame an OCS in the final race, finishing 5th and claiming third for the regatta.

The competition was fierce among the top boats with 4 teams winning races and just 4 points separating the top 5 boats. Next year’s Nationals will be hosted by the Hull Yacht Club and held on Hull Bay, South of Boston.
