Sailing with a purpose

My wife and I get on the water whenever we can, and for the three weeks that San Diego Bay was closed, we were reminded how important our recreation was for us. Particularly now, when we are all seeking normalcy, time on the water provided that relief amid this coronavirus pandemic.
We remain diligent in following local health restrictions, and now look forward to May 23 as the first attempt at racing returns to our harbor with the Race Your Household event. The format is about as simple as it gets, but unlike our earlier daysailing excursions, this will be sailing with a purpose.
I see no rush to get back to the type of racing that existed before this health crisis, but I like this step forward. I’ve said before that event format impacts participation, and this simple plan throws the door wide open for families of various skill levels to experience competitive sailing.
As we all have different perceptions of the pandemic, we are in this together, and I am hopeful our sport becomes stronger from the experience. Fingers crossed…
