2020 Sunfish Worlds is cancelled

Published on June 14th, 2020

The 2020 Sunfish World Championship, planned for October 18-24 in Sarasota, FL, has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With restrictions on international travel in place unlikely to change in time, event host Sarasota Sailing Squadron has agreed to host the 50th Sunfish Worlds in either late April or May 2021.

The committee previously organizing the 2021 Worlds for Lake Garda, Italy has agreed to delay their event until 2022.

“Although this was a difficult decision to make, it was clearly the right action to take,” said International Class President Rich Chapman (USA). “We are looking at our 50th World Championship to be a very special event and that will require lead times and detailed planning that are impossible at this time.”
