2021 O’pen Skiff World Championships

Published on July 17th, 2021

After the O’pen Skiff World Championships could not take place in 2020, the event came back to the scheduled 2020 destination to host 205 sailors from six countries for the 2021 edition on July 13-17 in Sardinia, Italy.

While pandemic restrictions kept major players from New Zealand, Australia, India, Thailand, and Japan from traveling, the championship titles saw dominating performance by U13 winner Josef Krasowski (POL) and U17 winner Manuel de Felice (ITA).

After the first day of competition was abandoned due to excessive of over 35 knots, the following days delivered smooth steady winds, perfect conditions for full-on, exciting dinghy racing in both age categories until the rougher Mistral winds came back on the final days, testing the full range of skills the skippers had at their disposal.

From the first day it was clear who the eventual winners would be, Josef Krasowski (U13) and Manuel de Felice (U17). Both of them imposed themselves from the start and never let up, establishing impressive leads in their respective rankings, showing their mastery of the varying conditions.

The final day’s racing saw an excellent late surge from Poland’s Daria Pedowska in the U13 category, making her the only girl to make a podium finish, in third place.
