Chicago to Mackinac record confirmed

The World Sailing Speed Record Council has confirmed the establishment of a new World Record for the 289nm Chicago to Mackinac course. Rick Warner (USA) and a crew of 10 on the ORMA 60 Arete trimaran covered the distance on September 20-21 in a time of 12 hours 30 minutes and 7 seconds (23.12 knot average), bettering the previous record of 17h 59m 49s set by Peter Thornton’s Volvo 70 Il Mostro in October 2017.
