2021 Reach Initiative Impact Report

Published on March 16th, 2022

Launched in 2012, Reach is US Sailing’s STEM Education Initiative using sailing as an educational platform for youth across the country.

In response to the pandemic, sailing programs throughout the US asked for support to start new small STEM education programs to promote science, technology, engineering, and math concepts. US Sailing responded by supporting smaller programs, staff positions, and supplies in 2021.

To reflect on the program’s progress,  US Sailing has released the 2021 Reach Initiative Impact Report. In prior years the grants supported partnership building between sailing centers and schools and after-school programming, where as the 2021 impact report focuses on the 2021 grant recipients.

These 10 programs sought to engage their community on a new level through their STEM programming using the Reach curriculum and resources available online. Staff from these organizations enrolled in the online Reach Educator Course to learn new techniques for offering hands-on lessons to their sailors while incorporating a variety of STEM concepts.
