Recognizing service beyond self

The Canadian Optimist Dinghy Association has launched a new award for class development, honoring the legacy of one of the nation’s remarkable sailors and coaches who passed away at a young age.

The perpetual trophy in the name of Henrik Moberg-Parker will be bestowed annually for leadership initiatives resulting in growth and development of the Optimist class in Canada.

“We feel that a vibrant and engaged youth sailing community influences all future sailing and want to celebrate those who inspire the kids,” said Jill Amery, CODA President

Recipients can be clubs, groups, sailors, or coaches who have put extra effort into the recruitment, support and encouragement of our youngest sailors, resulting in the expansion of the fleet and the delight that our sailors have for the sport.

Nominations for the Henrik Moberg-Parker Trophy for Class Development should include a name and explanation as to why the nominee has helped the growth, development, and encouragement of green and white fleet optimist sailors in Canada.

The first recipient will be announced on August 26, 2022. Nominations are to be submitted prior to August 22, 2022. Send to cdo@optican.org.
