Jury selected for photo competition

Published on August 16th, 2022

The 13th edition of the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image international photo competition has revealed its jury to select the best images taken between October 5, 2021 and October 9, 2022.

2022 Jury:
• Loïc Venance (FRA), professional photographer at AFP and winner of the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image award 2021
• Jonquil Hackenberg (UK), Chair of the Magenta Project
• Nicolas Mirabaud (SUI), Managing Partner, Mirabaud & Cie SA
• Meg Reilly (USA), Marketing & Media consultant – Ocean Racers, The Magenta Project, Heineken Regatta
• Brice Lechevallier (SUI), Editor-in-Chief of Skippers magazine
• David Graham (UK), CEO of World Sailing

An initial goal of the jury will be to eliminate images that do not fulfill contest guidelines, though this should be an easier task than a year ago. After the previous contest allowed a number of entries that did not meet the requirement of occurring during competition, the 2022 rules now only requires that images reflect the ‘spirit of yacht racing’ and may have been taken at any time – before, during, or after regattas.

The competition is open to professional photographers to submit their best photo by October 9, 2022 at 23:59 PM (GMT). The 80 best images selected by the international jury will be published online for public vote, with the jury than reducing the field to 20 images which will be exhibited at World Sailing’s annual conference in Abu Dhabi and at the Yacht Racing Forum in Malta.

The main prize, the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image award, will be selected by the international jury, while the public award will be based on the votes collected on Internet. Finally, the Yacht Racing Forum Award will be based on votes from delegates at World Sailing’s annual Conference and the Yacht Racing Forum.

Last year, 126 photographers representing 24 nationalities submitted an image for the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image award. The 2021 winner was French photographer Loïc Venance of AFP (click here).
