Bayesian rises from the darkness

Published on June 21st, 2025

Mike Lynch’s superyacht, Bayesian, has been resurfaced for the first time since it sank during a violent storm off the coast of Sicily in August last year, killing seven people including the tech tycoon and his teenage daughter.

The operation – which has cost approximately $30m  – gained momentum when the 184-foot vessel’s 236-foot mast was detached June 17th using a remote-controlled cutting tool and placed on the seabed.

TMC Maritime, which is conducting the recovery operation, then slowly raised the hull from the seabed, 165-feet down, over three days before the white top and blue hull emerged on June 20. A day later, English photographer Peter Byrne posted on Facebook the hull lifted from the water.
