Advancing Canadian Women and Youth

Published on August 15th, 2025

A new initiative called Kairos Racing will seek to advance Canadian sailing by creating a platform for performance, mentorship, and career development for female and youth sailors.

With its sights set on representing Canada at the 38th America’s Cup Women’s and Youth Regattas, Kairos Racing is building a sustainable high-performance team, including a women’s development program and a foiling program, to position Canadian sailors for success in international sailing.

The team is committed to allowing everyone engaged in Kairos Racing to thrive on and off the water, creating meaningful opportunities for Canadian sailors to explore careers in coaching, STEM and leadership, ensuring that Canada has a robust and comprehensive system supporting our homegrown talent.

“Kairos Racing grew out of the recognition that there was no clear pathway for Canadian female sailors to engage in consistent programming outside of the Olympic classes,” said Lisa Ross, two-time Olympian and Team Principal of Kairos Racing.

“Our aim is to open up opportunities for talented amateur and professional sailors, including through competitions such as 2026 International Women’s Championship and the America’s Cup regattas.

“We are building out a sustainable program with the vision to teach, lead, and shape the future of Canadian sailing, creating a movement that will inspire the next generation, putting Canada back on the map as a top-tier sailing nation.”

The initiative is backed by the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron (RNSYS). Having twice supported America’s Cup Challengers, the early support and guidance of RNSYS has been instrumental as Kairos Racing sets out to represent Canada on the world stage.

But while anchored in Nova Scotia, Kairos Racing will be connecting with clubs, communities, and supporters from coast to coast to coast. Its development programming will blend elite competition, career growth, and collaborative mentorship, within a culture that values excellence, inclusion, and integrity.
