Embodying the Corinthian spirit

Twenty-nine teams competed in the 2025 J/70 Corinthian World Championship held September 24-27 in Marblehead, MA. After winning four of the nine races, Alec Cutler and his Hedgehog team won the second edition for this title.
Cutler, who had competed in the pro-laden Melges 32 before the Class melted from the heat, now enjoys the opportunity in the J/70 Class to race with classmates from the US Naval Academy.
“These are my buddies from the Navy. It’s just wonderful to sail with your brothers. That’s who they are,” said Cutler. “Together we talk about the joy of fielding a Corinthian sailing team, where the focus is on enjoying the process with friends rather than just winning. Working together, having a set of goals, and going out and executing.
“The Corinthian World Championships are not just about being an amateur. They’re about embodying the Corinthian spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. It’s about sailing like ladies and gentlemen — being happy for others’ successes, and feeling bad when something bad happens to a competitor, even if you benefited from it.”
