Riddle and Warren Win Buccaneer 18 Champs

Anderson, SC (September 14, 2018) – The 2018 Buccaneer 18 North Americans wrapped up after completing 14 races in 3 days at the Western Carolina Sailing Club with Hunter Riddle (Pensacola, FL) and Terry Warren (Orlando, FL) winning the championship.

Originally scheduled for 4 days of racing (September 11-14), the first day of the regatta ended up being a great day for anything but sailboat racing. As many competitors knew coming into this regatta, if you’re going to be postponed, there are few places better than being stuck in shores of Lake Hartwell’s Western Carolina Sailing Club.

It was believed that about half the fleet was capable of winning the championship and, in fact, five different teams won races and only three points ended-up separating first and third places after 14 races.

Riddle and Warren won the championship with 27 points having finished first in only two races but had a string of solid seconds and thirds. In second, two points behind, were Buccaneer 18 Class Commodore and three-time BNAC Champ Ed Montano and Shannon Devine (Kenosha, WI).

One point behind in third was Jeff Neaurater (Alexandria, VA), sailing with Heather Howard. In the B Division, Mike Sigmund and Brett Auer (Chapel Hill, NC) stands two points ahead of Michael Major and Carrie Quinn (Washington, DC) in second.

“The WCSC had a great team and hosted a fantastic event,” noted Montano. “It is always great to see fellow Buccaneer sailors, and I am really glad we came and am sad to leave. These are great boats to sail and the people are even better. I love this Class. Oh and by the way, we are getting out of dodge right now as what’s left of Hurricane Florence comes through the area.”
