Joyon trailing transatlantic record pace

Published on June 12th, 2013

(June 12, 2013) – Francis Joyon left New York on Tuesday (June 11) to begin his attempt to smash the singlehanded transatlantic sailing record, seeking to beat the current record (05:19:30:40) held since July 2008 by Thomas Coville on his trimaran Sodebo. Joyon and his 29.7m maxi-trimaran IDEC will have to cross the latitude of The Lizard by 0445hrs UTC (0645hrs CET) on Monday June 17. Joyon and IDEC were struggling today with very unstable weather that was not conducive to high speed on a chaotic sea, and was trailing the record pace by 54 nm. – Full report
