Coville closes the gap on Joyon’s record

Published on January 21st, 2014

(January 22, 2014; Day 5) Conditions have improved for French skipper Thomas Coville and his 31m maxi-trimaran Sodebo, gaining 50 miles on the solo around the world record set by Francis Joyon (FRA), though still trailing by 134 as of Jan. 22 01:00 TU. With Joyon’s near perfect descent south in the Atlantic in 2008, Coville’s team knew this section of the assault would be difficult. After 2511 miles, Coville has now passed Cape Verde Islands.
