Coville swallowed by South Atlantic High

Published on January 27th, 2014

(January 27, 2014; Day 10) – With the St. Helena anticyclone covering much of the South Atlantic, French skipper Thomas Coville and the maxi-trimaran Sodebo will be forced to sail extra miles in pursuit of the solo around the world record set of Francis Joyon (FRA). His course remains south along the Brazilian course, now at 25 degrees below the equator, but there is no path that avoids the light winds of the high, with Coville now 275 miles behind Joyon’s record pace (as of 23:45 TU).  Team website.
