New Fastnet Course Record Ratified

(October 9, 2015) – The World Sailing Speed Record Council has ratified a new outright world record for the 595nm Fastnet race course. On September 16-17, Lloyd Thornberg (USA) and Brian Thompson (GBR) plus a crew of 5 sailed the MOD 70 Phaedo 3 to a new time of 27:42:26 for an average of 21.48 knots. The previous record was held by 130-foot Banque Populaire 5, when skipper Loick Peyron (FRA) in August 2011 completed the course in 32:48:46.
