Published on May 5th, 2016

Lloyd Thornburg and crew on his MOD70 Phaedo^3 have tentatively posted a new world record time for the 2870nm route from Bermuda to Plymouth, UK.

Thornburg’s team of Brian Thompson, Simon Fisher, Pete Cumming, Sam Goodchild, and Paul Allen set a time of 5 days 11 hours 57 minutes and 17 seconds, eclipsing the previous record of 14:06:12:50 set in 2004 by Ross Hobson and crew on the 43-foot trimaran Mollymawk.

Thornburg’s time will now be submitted to World Sailing Speed Record Council for ratification.
