43rd edition of Oregon Offshore

Published on April 9th, 2019

The 2019 Oregon Offshore International Yacht Race starts May 9 for the 43rd edition of the 193-mile race that starts at Buoy 2 off the Columbia River entrance and finishes at the entrance to Victoria, BC harbor.

The entry list includes the usual who’s who of the Portland sailing community, with some very welcome participants coming from out of the area. Local boats of note are Rage, the locally built 68 foot winning offshore racer now owned by David Raney. Joining Rage on the line will be Scott Campbells’s beautiful new Riva, a state of the art J/121, crewed by the usual group of local rock stars.

In addition to other local regulars, Portland J/105 owners will have their own One-Design fleet, with three entrants. An exciting addition to the race will be an entrant from San Francisco, Nathalie Criou, sailing her Figaro 2 with the Shut Up and Drive team. This boat will be participating in the Oregon Offshore, the Swiftsure, and then the Race to Alaska, for boats that are powered by sails or human power only.

This year, in conjunction with the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, the First Annual Cascadia Cup will be awarded to the competitor with the lowest combined time in the Oregon Offshore and qualifying races of the Swiftsure event. The current race record holder is Kevin Welch’s 65′ custom Bob Perry carbon fiber sled Icon which in 2014 set an elapsed time of 14:56:20.
