Sail Canada Sailor of the Month

Published on April 15th, 2019

Sail Canada’s Sailor of the Month award acknowledges sailing achievements by Canadians involved or associated with the sport in all its forms. Here is the latest recipient.

In his first event back since winning the 2017 J24 Worlds, Rossi Milev won again, this time taking the 2019 J/24 Midwinter Championship at Davis Island Yacht Club in Tampa, Florida. Also on the team was Vince Somoza (boat owner) and Gayle Gray along with Dan Borrer and Mark Goodyear who were part of the World Championship crew.

“It felt great to be back,” said Milev. “We didn’t have the gears since we haven’t sailed for a while, but every day, we got a little better.” Although Borrer and Somoza were newcomers to Clear Air, they “clicked from the get-go.”

With the racing being held March 1-3, the 25°C temperatures and steady breeze in Florida was a welcome change from the sub-zero conditions at home in Canada. Milev and the team finished up the 8-race regatta with a total of 23 points.

Congratulations to the Helly Hansen Sailor of the Month – Rossi Milev
