New leadership for Olympic Games
Published on October 11th, 2024
The future leadership for the International Olympic Committee will be decided when approximately 100 IOC members, which include European and Middle Eastern royalty, sports officials, current and former Olympic athletes, politicians, and billionaire industrialists, cast their votes for a new president during a meeting scheduled for March 18-21, 2025.
Seven candidates are vying to succeed outgoing IOC president Thomas Bach who is approaching the statutory maximum of 12 years in office and will exit June 2025 after a three-month transition with his successor. The IOC leadership role demands extensive knowledge of sports management, an understanding of athletes’ needs, and adept skills in global politics.
On January 30, 2025, IOC Members will attend presentations by the candidates for the IOC presidency in a closed meeting. The session will allow the seven candidates to outline their programs. – Full report
