Conner Blouin, Sunfish World Champion

Published on October 18th, 2024

Conner Blouin (USA) topped 99 sailors from 14 countries to win the 2024 Sunfish World Championship on October 14-18 in Heath, TX. Twelve races were held on Lake Ray Hubbard, with Blouin finishing 20 points ahead of second place finisher Olympian Luke Ramsay (CAN). Third went to three-time Sunfish World Champion Jean Paul de Trazignies of Peru.

The 53rd edition featured typical lake winds, with races held in 4-16 knots of breeze with continuous velocity changes and some big shifts. That made consistency hard to come by, and while there were nine different race winners, Blouin finished strong with a 1-1-1-4 to claim his first Sunfish World title.

The top 10 included the highest-placed woman in the event, Maria Jose Cucalon of Ecuador, who finished 7th overall, and two Grand Masters (age 60-69), Olympian Paul Foerster in 9th and Mike Ingham in 10th, both of the US. Overall, there were 17 women, 16 youth, and 50 masters competing in the championship.

The 2025 Worlds will be in Ecuador, tentatively in December.
