Rematch for 2022 Canada’s Cup

Published on August 12th, 2022

The 26th Canada’s Cup will pit defending champion Royal Canadian Yacht Club (Toronto, ON) in a rematch of the 2021 edition with Youngstown Yacht Club (Youngstown, NY) when they meet September 1-5 in Toronto, ON.

RCYC’s Team Defiant led by Terry McLaughlin will also be looking to equalize the results as USA currently has 13 wins with Canada on 12 wins in the 126 year old event. For the USA, the YYC will have their Commodore Adam Burns at the helm of ZING.

Sailed in equal IC37s, Burns will be looking to deny McLaughlin the fourth win in his Canada’s Cup career while seeking his first victory after unsuccessful challenges in 2016 and 2021. Victory goes to the first team to claim seven wins.

Complementing the 2022 Canada’s Cup is the addition of the Warrior Sailing Cup on August 31-September 2 to host veteran sailors from Canada, USA, Amsterdam, and the Netherlands for one day of training and two days of Sonar racing in Toronto Harbour.

Canada Team: Terry McLaughlin (skipper), Andrew Kenny, Andrew McTavish, Chantal Hearst, Ingrid Merry, John Millen, Lance Fraser, Sandy Andrews, Scott Collinson

USA Team: Bob Hesse (owner), Adam Burns (skipper), Shannon Brown, Bridget DeDario, Chris Doyle, John Goller, Charlie Kegler Jr., Dominic Pacillo (junior sailor), Scott Walter.
