New World Record Ratified

(October 12, 2015) – The World Sailing Speed Record Council has ratified a new outright world record for the 329nm course from Plymouth (GBR) to La Rochelle (FRA). On September 17, Lloyd Thornberg (USA) and Brian Thompson (GBR) plus a crew of 5 sailed the MOD 70 Phaedo 3 to a new time of 14:05:20 for an average of 21.36 knots. The previous record was held by 105-foot PlayStation, when skipper Steve Fossett (USA) in April 2002 completed the course in 16:42:40.
