Game on for 2020 eSailing Worlds

London, England (February 3, 2020) – The race to become the 2020 eSailing World Champion and win $10,000 USD is underway as the 2020 Championship was officially launched today.

Organized in partnership between World Sailing, the International Federation for the sport, and Virtual Regatta, the world-leading digital sailing platform, the eSailing World Championship has seen more than 170,000 unique players from 74 nations race since the first edition in in 2018.

Existing eSailors and new players are invited to compete in the third season, for free. The first challenge is available now and can be played on computer or iOS and Android devices.

Together with the World Championship, three eSailing National Championships have been launched today in France, Italy and The Netherlands. Further National Championships will be launched throughout the year.

Today’s launch marks the start of the journey to the 2020 Live Final. To get there, eSailors will aim to qualify for the Finals Playoffs which will bring in the top 1,000 ranked eSailors, the top 10 of each eSailing National Championship, and the top eight from each eSailGP Qualifier.

The top eight from the Final Playoffs and the winner of the eSailGP Qualifier will come together at the Live Final. The 2020 World Champion will be crowned at the Live Final (date and location to be announced), and will also walk away with a $10,000 USD cheque, generously donated by Virtual Regatta.

The eSailGP 2020 Championship, sailed on the eF50s, a digital representation of SailGP’s catamarans, will also form part of the 2020 eSailing World Championship. A further announcement will follow on the eSailGP 2020 Championship.
