Back in the boat at Championship of Champions

Published on October 2nd, 2024

US Sailing was criticized in 2023 when radio-controlled boats were chosen for its annual Championship of Champions, an invitation-only event which brings together one design class champions for a competition in one type of boat to see who is the best of the best.

However, order will be restored this year as Grande Maumelle Sailing Club (Little Rock, Arkansas) will host the 2024 edition using the Y-Flyer, an 18-foot flat bottomed scow-type dinghy. Champion sailors will once again have to prove their ability on a boat.

The club is no stranger to hosting major events, having previously hosted the Championship of Champions in 1998 and 2006, and is eager to showcase Lake Maumelle and highlight a boat which its membership has enjoyed since the late 1950s.

Twenty entrants from across the USA will compete October 4-6, representing keelboat, dinghy, and catamaran one design classes.
