Seahorse Sailor of the Month

Published on August 26th, 2025

Seahorse magazine hosts a monthly poll to recognize recent achievement, and the September 2025 winner is Alli Bell (USA). Here are the details:

Her nomination:
… and her Cal 40 Restless. So many great sailors have raced Cal 40s in the Transpac over the years that Bell and her crew walk in some famous footsteps. However, only a few of them have taken overall honors for the legendary 2,225nm course. And for all bar a few hours of their 12d 12h crossing, Restless sat firmly atop the corrected-time standings. Family affair too… Bell’s crew included a cousin and her husband, with another cousin pulling out due to injury a few days before the start.

What the voters said:
“I learned ocean racing from Alli’s grandfather Willard and uncles Sam and Willie, so I appreciate Alli’s heritage. As the third generation of offshore racing Bells, it was inevitable that Alli would be successful in the Transpac” – Stan Honey; “First female skipper to win in over 100 years’ history of the event. That is tantamount to being the first female to win the America’s Cup ever” – John Driscoll; “Alli is the best. An accomplished sailor, and a wonderful, caring person!” – Dan McCune
