Kate Danielson honored by FWSA

Florida Women’s Sailing Association (FWSA) on the west coast of Florida selected Kate Danielson for their annual Young Woman Sailor of the Year Award. This recognition signifies both accomplishment within the sport of sailing as well as a monetary award.
Sailing has been Kate’s passion since her parents signed her up for a “Learn to Sail” summer camp at age 6. She was fortunate to have Olympic champion Allison Jolly as an early instructor, and at the age of thirteen met Olympian Paige Riley. Sailing the ILCA 6 alongside Paige as she trained for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics inspired Kate to dream big.
The combination of Kate’s sailing passion and her parent’s realism led to the development of her three sailing objectives. Kate’s short-term goal is to continue to sail with the Harvard Varsity sailing team while studying applied mathematics.
Her intermediate goal is to launch an Olympic campaign after college. Kate continues to sail the ILCA 6 where she is currently on the US Olympic Development Team and receives high rankings in both national and international competitions.
Her long-term objective is to give back to the sailing community that has taught her discipline, self confidence, problem solving, leadership, fair play and a sense of community through volunteerism. She is dedicated to building the community of sailing for everyone.
The FWSA was founded in 1973 to promote and encourage the growth of women sailing groups along the West coast of Florida. There currently are eleven member clubs with close to four hundred women racing once a week in their respective sailing clubs on both Florida’s West and East Coasts. Details: www.fwsa.net
