2026 ISCA North American Championship

The 2026 ISCA (formerly Sunfish) North American Championship was sailed June 5-7 on Narragansett Bay off Barrington, Rhode Island. A fleet of 106 competitors from 11 countries competed in the 9-race series won by Jean Paul de Trazegnies of Peru by two points over Colombia’s Simon Gomez Ortiz.
This is de Trazegnies fourth NA championship, complementing his three World titles.
Rhode Island’s Amanda Callahan earned top female honors (and a 10th-place overall finish), while Parker Nagle of the U.S. Virgin Islands was the top youth competitor, finishing 7th overall. The fleet included 23 women, and competitors ranged in age from 13 years to 89 years old.
Conditions provided a wide range of challenges over the three days. Day one featured light and highly variable winds of 4-6 knots. With the breeze slow to fill and shifting frequently in direction, race officials were only able to complete two races.
The second day began with similarly light conditions but saw the breeze steadily build throughout the day. By the fourth race, gusts were approaching 20 knots.
The final day delivered classic Narragansett Bay heavy-air racing. Winds frequently gusted into the low 20s, only to be followed by lulls in the 10-12 knot range, conditions that rewarded the ability to spot the breeze and change gears as needed.
