After 15 2-boat international teams competed in the successful revival of the biennial Admiral’s Cup in 2025, which had been on hiatus for more than two decades, Bayview Yacht Club (BYC) has announced its intent to challenge for the 2027 edition.
Based in Detroit, Michigan, BYC members Peter Askew’s TP52 Wizard and James Murray’s Carkeek Fast 40+ Callisto will partner for the racing on July 13–28 in the Solent and English Channel, culminating in the Rolex Fastnet Race.
“We learned as junior sailors on the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair that those waters can take you anywhere in the world,” Askew said. “We’re looking forward to lining up in Europe against some of the greatest offshore sailors in the world today.”
Murray added, “With the Bayview Yacht Club Admiral’s Cup challenge, we look forward to bringing our love of the sport and the competitive fire shared by all Great Lakes sailors to the international community.”
A teams from New York Yacht Club competed in 2025 which was won by Yacht Club de Monaco with Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club in second and Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in third.
“It’s great to see Bayview back at the Admiral’s Cup,” said Bill Martin, BYC member and former president of US Sailing, the US Olympic Committee, and athletic director at the University of Michigan. An avid sailor, Martin skippered a US-flagged boat at the 1981 Admiral’s Cup series.
