Broadening the horizon for sailors

The best way for a person to have new experiences is through their curiosity and initiative. The second-best way is anyway possible, and with greater limits and structure put on recent generations, organized programs occur to broaden the horizon for sailors. Here are two:
Australia: The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) has formed an ‘Offshore Academy Working Group’ (OAWG) to determine the feasibility of establishing an ‘Offshore Sailing Academy’ (OSA) at the CYCA. The vision for the program, which is to for sailors 25-50 years of age, is to foster a new generation of offshore sailors and enhance competitive sailing skills from beginners to advanced participants. The OAWG is currently considering practical training on board yachts between 35 to 45 feet in length, specifically designed to compete in the Club’s offshore sailing calendar. – Details
United Kingdom: The Royal Ocean Racing Club has launched the 2025 Griffin Offshore Pathway, a program designed to provide a range of opportunities to young sailors of different abilities, wanting to hone their skills in offshore sailing. The program, for sailors aged 18-30 years, will enable three fully crewed squads to compete in events on the club’s racing calendar. Additionally, the program will enter a Figaro 3 to compete in France and Italy. – Details
